Prep Your Home for an AC Replacement Appointment

person-considering-a-checklist

Air conditioner installation or replacement might be pretty exciting for you. It’s a once-in-a-decade experience. But for us, well… we’re excited that you’ll have a new system that perfectly fits your comfort needs. It might not seem quite as exciting, though, to HVAC technicians who go through this process every day! That’s why we’re the perfect people to answer any questions you have.

Since it has been many years between your last AC installation and the next one, the process could easily be confusing or overwhelming. But we’re here to help! How should you prepare for your AC replacement appointment? What should you expect? Here’s everything you need to know.

The AC Replacement Process

The first step in your air conditioning journey happens long before the technicians show up to put in your new AC unit. You’ll need to determine what size system you need and choose the specific model. This needs to be done with the assistance of an HVAC expert, so you’ll end up with an air conditioner you’re happy with for many years to come.

When the technicians do arrive with your AC replacement, they’ll prepare the areas where they’ll be working. Then they’ll turn off and disconnect your old units, indoors and out, and move them out of the way. The new units will be positioned, connected, and turned on. While the system runs for a bit, to make sure all is well, you’ll be provided with the owner’s manual and a quick tutorial on how to use the system.

The AC Replacement Timeline

Perhaps the most important thing to know is how long all this will take. After all, you’ll need to clear your schedule and be available for the technicians on installation day. The first thing to be aware of is that there are sometimes circumstances which require a multi-day process. This will generally only happen when significant work (say, duct replacement) needs to happen first.

Once any preparatory work is out of the way, on the day of your installation, you should be prepared to be home for eight hours or so. Will it really take that long to pull out your old air conditioner and put in the new one? Maybe not. It could take as little as four hours! But plan to be home the whole day.

AC Replacement Home Prep

We can help you increase the odds that your installation will be quick and easy. Remember that we said your technicians’ first job is to prepare the areas where they’ll be working? Streamline that for them by taking care of that before they arrive. Consider where they’ll park, where the indoor and outdoor units are, and which doorway will be easiest to maneuver through.

Clear pathways through everywhere they might need to go, so nobody will trip on a flowerpot or lawn flamingo. Around the indoor unit, make sure there’s plenty of space for the technicians and their tools. Around the outdoor unit, trim plants back and rake debris.

Finally, we ask you to be aware of your pets. While our technicians would love to meet friendly, furry faces, they’ll work more quickly without any kitty curiosity or puppy love. And we absolutely don’t want to risk stepping on a tail or paw. Keep your furbabies shut in another room during your installation.
