When a company is in the food industry, the absolute worst thing that could happen to it would be for their refrigerator to stop working for any amount of time. It can be very costly to repair, not only to fix the problem, but also if any of the product goes bad due to lack of refrigeration. Any glitch with the refrigeration unit is an emergency and is cause for concern.

No Maintenance

One of the things that can lead to problems with your unit is misusing it and not setting up appointments for regular maintenance. Not taking this precaution can lead to dirty coils and low Freon levels. These two issues can often lead to unit failure or breakdown, which is very costly because it involves new parts having to be purchased, or in some severe cases, a whole new unit has to be purchased.

Gasket Problems

If your refrigeration is not staying cool enough or it is developing frost by the door, there is most likely a problem with the gasket on the door. Over time, it is common for the gasket to get worn and therefore your workers need to use a little bit more force for the door to close properly. Most commercial units have a latch, so be sure that you and your workers are using the latch properly and making sure that the door stays close when not in use.

Improper Use

In a busy kitchen, it’s relatively easy to leave the door open for too long, and it’s practically necessary to make frequent trips to the refrigerator. But this excessive use takes away from the life of your unit. Having the door open and close too frequently makes it harder to maintain a steady temperature, which can have an effect on the refrigerator.

If you understand what actions you should avoid, you can prevent your refrigeration unit from having a sudden breakdown. You can save a lot of money from lost product and sales if you take the proper precautions to take care of your unit to catch potential issues before they become costly problems.

It may seem relatively easy to open up Google and type in “air conditioning contractors [in your area]” but how do you narrow down your choices? The first contractor that comes up may be a good company, but it may not be the right company for you. Choosing the right air conditioning contractor is just as important as choosing the right nanny or babysitter; you have to make sure that you trust the person and that they have the right knowledge, skills, and abilities to handle your situation.

                Do Your Research

Say you’ve found a contractor that looks trustworthy. Look up the insurance and licensing laws in your area and check to see that the company complies with them. Study the background of the company and search for customer complaints and reviews. Go to the Better Business Bureau website and make sure that the employees are all certified and insured.

                Ask for Recommendations

Chances are that your friends and neighbors have used an AC contractor in the past and could give you a company that they found to be trustworthy. Your friends will provide you with either good or bad experiences that they’ve had with a specific company, and this will enable you to knock a few companies off of your list or add to it.

                Get Estimates

It’s important to get at least three estimates for any repair service, and they should be in writing and also itemized. If the prices differ greatly, this also narrows down your choices. Perhaps one company charges more because they offer an additional service that could be helpful to you. This could impact your ultimate decision. Not only is price important, but available warranties and energy efficiency are important factors to consider as well.

                Assess the Estimator

When you choose contractors to come to your home for the estimates, they should be very thorough in their inspection of your unit. They should be able to assess what services you’ll need for your home. You should have multiple contractors so that you can compare their recommendations and not sign up for services that you don’t necessarily need.

                Sign a Contract

When you’ve finally decided on a contractor that makes you feel comfortable, be sure to sign an agreement that lists the prices and services that will be performed. Getting it written down will save you from any confusion of what is provided on the contractors’ end, and the prices are guaranteed to not increase unknowingly.

Whether you just moved to a new home, or your unit needs to be repaired for the first time, choosing the right contractor is really important. The company that you use for the first time will be your first choice the next time that you need somebody to repair your system. You need to feel safe and confident with someone who will be spending time in your home.

To set up an appointment for an estimate, call us at (407) 859-1494.

These three systems are often combined into one unit that is useful for heating or cooling down your home. A HVAC unit works by air (cool, warm, or dehumidified) passing through pipes called ducts to circulate in all of the rooms in your home. The HVAC unit is an integral part of living comfortably in your home, and should be kept up with to catch potential problems before they occur and create a need for a very costly HVAC repair.

Different Systems

There are two different types of HVAC systems. One type is the “split system,” in which the condenser is placed outside and the evaporator coil is placed inside. They transfer heat from inside of your home to outside if the heater is on, and they transfer cool air from inside of your home to the outside when it’s cold outside. To create heat, liquid refrigerant is required. The compressor expands this refrigerant and it turns into a gas, which then flows to the evaporator coil. This gas absorbs the hot air inside of the ducts and leaves the cooler air to circulate through the ducts and your home. The gas then gets sent back to the compressor and the process begins again.

The other type of HVAC system is called “packaged,” and it still has the same condenser and evaporator coil units. The difference is that these are put together to comprise one unit, which is placed outside. The cooling/heating process is still the same as the split system. Whichever system that you choose depends on where your home is located and how it has been constructed

Potential Problems

No matter which system is chosen, they’re both going to have their fair share of problems. If your unit is not working properly, it may be a sign that one or more components need repairs:

Refrigerant pressure levels being off

Air filters being faulty or need to be cleaned

Ducts need replacement

Evaporator coil needs repair/replacement

Blower wheel and/or motor needs repair/replacement

Preventative Maintenance

Professional preventative maintenance is something that will take care of the upkeep of your system. This service will allow for a professional HVAC specialist to come to your home and clean your unit, and to catch potential problems before they become costly repairs. This professional will clean the ducts; check the refrigerant pressure and levels; check the air quality, as well as other services.

With air conditioning units being one of the most important appliances you can have in your home, being able to ask for assistance for an emergency at any time of the day is crucial. It’s possible that you may wake up in the middle of a hot summer night to find yourself drenched in sweat because your air conditioner decided to break down. Emergencies tend to happen during the most inconvenient times, so it’s important to have an air conditioning contractor in your area that offers service 24 hours a day. These companies realize that customer needs are very important, no matter what time of the day or night they’ll be needing assistance.

We have several clients who have thanked us for coming to their rescue very late at night. One client in particular had come home from a month-long vacation in South Africa to find that her air conditioner stopped working. Mind you, this happened in the middle of summer. When we arrived at her home, it was excruciatingly hot and the paint had begun peeling off the walls (she had accidentally left her bathroom window open a crack). We got her call at 3am and were there promptly afterwards. It turned out that the level of Freon in her unit was extremely low because she was unaware of a leak that her unit had.

We told our client about out preventative maintenance (PM) service agreement, which enables us to check on your system bi-annually to ensure that your system is running normally. If she had the PM service agreement prior to this incident, we would have been able to catch the leak and prevent her machine from not working properly. With this agreement, we will test and calibrate the thermostat, check the system’s oil levels, as well as all of the pumps and valves, and many more maintenance features and benefits. Click here to read more about our PM service agreement.

Having an air conditioning contractor who offers services 24 hours a day is very beneficial to you as a client. You’ll have a greater piece of mind knowing that your contractor will be able to assist you with an emergency no matter if it’s at 2 in the morning or 2 in the afternoon.

If you would like to hear more about the services we offer, call us at (407) 859-1494.

When the temperature rises, there is absolutely nothing worse than an air conditioning unit that has broken and leaves you drowning in a pool of your own sweat and misery. The most common complaint is the unit shutting down completely, but if you can find the smaller problems that contribute to this large problem before the major breakdown happens, it is possible to avoid a hefty payment for your air conditioning repair. Sometimes all that is required is to reset the circuit breaker because your unit may need to have a fuse replaced. Other times, it’s a bit more complicated than that.

Noise Complaint

One of the most common complaints is a “whirring” type of noise. This noise is often caused by the fan belt becoming loose over time. To fix it, just put the belt back on and check the motor to make sure that it doesn’t need to be lubricated or even replaced.

Frozen Coils

Frozen coils or having ice on the coils severely restrict the unit from operating correctly. Heating pumps can often solve this problem. If not, then calibrating the unit should fix the problem, and it can also make your unit more efficient.

Water Leakage

Your unit may leak water into your home, which can cause mildew and mold damage. This leakage is the condensation that is not being drained properly. The problem could be the condensation pan that is rusted, or there could be some sort of blockage preventing the water from being drained.

Still Not Cool Enough

If your unit just isn’t keeping your home cool enough, it may have a clogged valve or need re-calibration. It may not be getting a good enough sample from the air in the room to control how much cool air gets released, or your Freon levels may be too low.

If the above actions do not take care of your issue, then your unit may have bigger problems that only a professional would have the proper knowledge and training would know how to solve. By knowing what is not wrong with your unit, you can save the professional time and you can save yourself money.

Learn more about air conditioning and how to get it repaired.

The air conditioner is Godís gift to control the weather. When youíre inside your home or apartment, the comfort of a cool breeze can only come from a properly installed air conditioner. So if youíre planning to experience the wonders of the air con, then itís always best to follow these ten things to do to properly install your air conditioner.

1. Before you buy an air conditioner, check out the space your air conditioner will be cooling. Determining the size of the room will help you buy an air conditioner just right for your needs. This will help you save money when your electric bills will come along and it will also save you from getting an air conditioner that canít handle the size its cooling.

2. Choose an air conditioner brand that you trust. Since youíll be using this appliance a lot, like most appliances that you need to rely on, itís always best to invest on a name that many trust.

3. If youíre planning to have your air conditioner installed by someone else, better get a quote and do a canvass first. Make sure that the installation guys come from a reputable company. Usually they will propose plans on where to put the air conditioner to maximize its power.

4. If youíre planning to install the air conditioner yourself, then the next step is to get a permit or authorization to install (if needed).

5. Before installing, make sure that there is adequate electrical service or that your socket can give the needed power for your air conditioner. Usually a fuse or a socket is dedicated to just an air conditioner because it uses a lot of electricity.

6. If your room already has a window frame in place for an air conditioner, double check the frame to see if it needs any mending.
7. Your brand new air conditioner comes with a set of instructions for installation.

8. As you install your air conditioner, make sure you give it enough support underneath or fasten it with angles or metal brackets.

9. Make sure your air conditioner is secure to prevent movement and shifting due to hard winds and other weather conditions.

10. Tilt the air conditioner slightly for proper water drainage. Make sure your air conditioner is not overly tilted.

Learn more about air conditioning and how to get it repaired.

Air conditioning is probably the most important (and expensive) appliance in your home. Itís not just to keep you cool from hot summer nights, but also to keep you comfortable that you donít wake up drenched in sweat. An air conditioner is the new age security blanket, and today, almost everybody grows up with an air conditioner.

In fact an air conditioner is so widely used but most often theyíre taken for granted. So when does an air conditioner need the love and support of its owner? The first telltale sign is when it doesnít release cool air anymore.

The first thing you should think about is maybe thereís something you can do to repair your air conditioner. If your air conditioner can still be turned on, but blows warm air, it may just need to be cleaned. First, turn off the power or disconnect from the socket. Unscrew the protective grills, and donít pull any wires loose. Then using a brush, remove the dirt and debris away from the fins.

But if the air conditioner doesnít turn on at all, then you have to start thinking about calling a professional.

Whether its other telltale signs, like when the coil freezes up, or the compressor starts kicking on and off. Yes, avid air conditioner owner, your air conditioner needs a-repairing. Ever wonder how and where that mildew smell comes from when you turn your air conditioner on?

Make that call right now. Call your electrician, or better yet, a certified air conditioner repair man, because itís time to give your a/c some love. Because you canít expect love to come back from your air conditioner, it will just choose to get angry and blow hot air at you, or wonít give you the time of day at all.

Learn more about air conditioning and how to get it repaired.

If your air conditioner stopped blowing cold air what are you going to do? Well, first things first, donít panic. There is something you can do before calling the air conditioner repair guy, and get charged a load of money.

The fact that your air conditioner is still blowing air is still a good sign. If your air conditioner wonít turn on, then you should be calling your electrician or certified air conditioner repair guy by now. Maybe it just needs cleaning.

The first thing to do when cleaning your air conditioner is to always turn off the power and unplug your air conditioner from the socket. Then unscrew the protective grills, and the top cover of the compressor. Make sure you donít pull anything else away as you do this.

There could be a lot of dirt and even debris inside. This could be what caused your air conditioner to lose its coolness. Then, with a soft brush, scrub the dirt and debris from the fins. You may also use a vacuum with a brush to do this. Then you return everything back to the way things were.

If your air conditioner doesnít want to turn on, then check the 240 volt circuit dedicated for your air conditioner. It may have a tripped breaker or a blown fuse. Then check the room thermostat setting. It should be at least 5 degrees below your room temperature. Make sure that the thermostat is set to ìcoolî and not on ìoffî or ìheatî. If your air conditioner still doesnít want to turn on, then start calling a service technician or a certified air conditioner repair man.

While he or she is repairing your air conditioner, ask him or her to help you go through the process of troubleshooting your air conditioner. Itís always best to know just about when youíll be needing his help again.
